Barcelona Nautical Cluster continues to grow. While the company closed the year with 47 members, it now comprises 61 companies and organisations related to maritime, nautical and port activities around Barcelona. 14 new members have joined the Cluster in the past six months, and this figure could increase further in the coming weeks, since up to eight firms are waiting to have their request to become full Cluster members accepted.
Two companies related to the insurance industry and specialising in the marine industry joined in the first half of 2015 - Bujons Correduria d’Assegurances and Pantenius, increasing the current portfolio of consulting firms that are part of the organisation. Another member is Cienpies Comunicación, a marketing and communications agency that works with several nautical stakeholders.
New registrations from the industrial and port sector
The report on the economic impact of the nautical sector companies highlighted the importance of the industrial sector among the members of Barcelona Nautical Cluster, since 20 of the 51 companies analysed were related to this particular economic activity. The industry is also very well represented among the new additions. Click'n'go, the company working with an innovative boat lifting system joins the organisation alongside EMV Marine, one of the five European companies authorised by Nautor's Swan to perform maintenance and repair of sail and motor boats.
Two international industrial companies have joined the Cluster - De Keizer, a Dutch company that installs electronic systems on luxury yachts and specialises in maintenance in Barcelona, and Denmark's Aage Hempel, which set up in Spain in 1992 and works installing and repairing navigation equipment.
Ports and marinas have been very prominent within the Nautical Cluster since its inception. In recent months Marina Badalona, the company managing the Port of Badalona, has joined the ranks of companies such as Port 2000, Port Fòrum and Port Olímpic, widening the particular coastal map of the Cluster. And speaking of the maritime profile of Barcelona, we must not forget Barcelona's Hotel W, the company responsible for building and managing the Nova Bocana area, which recently joined the Cluster.
We can also count Smartsea as a port company. This is a startup that is the first online port and has already developed the first interactive application for marinas and yacht clubs. The company joined the Cluster at the beginning of 2015.
Maritime safety and water safety
The Nautical Cluster has recently welcomed two companies specialised in maritime safety. While Qontinuum works designing and producing electronic equipment for control and safety on board sailing ships, Pro-Active Serveis Nàutics has extensive experience in prevention and water safety.
One of the latest additions to the Cluster was Smallwoods, an American sailing clothing brand based in Fort Lauderdale that recently opened an office in Barcelona.
