In 2015 Barcelona will again be the scene of one of the major international nautical events of the year. From 27 June to 4 July Barcelona will host the ORC World Championship, organised by the Barcelona Royal Yacht Club (Reial Club Nàutic de Barcelona). So far, with the first application period closed, 70 vessels from 17 different countries have registered to take part. These are extraordinary figures, considering that the contest aims to close the registration of participants at 120 and there are still more than 4 months to go until the Championship.
The competition will feature the biggest names in the cruise sailing scene. Already confirmed in Barcelona are the "Enfant Terrible" fleet from the Neo Silva from Germany, world champions in 2012 and 2014 in ORC Class A, the Italian Airis fleet, ORC World Champions in 2013, and Scugnizza, winners in the ORC B category in 2013.
17 different nationalities
Spain and Italy are the countries contributing the most sailors, but the facilities of the Barcelona Royal Yacht Club will also host representatives from Germany, Belgium, Brazil, Denmark, Ecuador, the United States, Estonia, France, the Netherlands, Latvia, Peru, Portugal, United Kingdom, Switzerland and Ukraine; A total of 17 nationalities for an edition of the ORC Championship that will be more international than ever before. And the number will be higher, because there until 30 March opened the second application period.
