The Barcelona Clúster Nàutic celebrates its annual assembly

The organization expands its Board of Directors and celebrates Barcelona hosting the Unesco Scientific Congress for Seas and Oceans.

Last Tuesday, April 25, the headquarters of the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, a partner of the entity, hosted the entity's general assembly. The Board of Directors, led by its president Marcelo Penna and its general manager, Andor Serra, presented the work done during 2022 and its balanced economic closure. At the same time they presented the work plan and budget for this year 2023. Everything had the ratification and approval of the assembly.

The organization is experiencing an important moment, with more than 80 members. Partners that represent a turnover of more than 1,100 million euros and more than 5,500 jobs.

The assembly also ratified the organization's 2022-2025 Master Plan focused on the development of digitization and decarbonization and circular economy projects. The Plan also emphasizes the biodiversity hub lab and strengthening specialized training in the sector with the Blue Talent platform.

On the other hand, the partners assessed very positively the defense (with the CSIC and the IEO) of Barcelona's candidacy as the seat of the Unesco Scientific Congress for the Seas and Oceans in April 2024. An event that Barcelona City Council has integrated the America's Cup program.

As part of the America's Cup, the president of the Cluster, Marcelo Penna, presented the electric boats project. A Catalan business project that will allow the construction of electric boats for the competition. All of them manufactured and designed by a wide range of companies in the sector, many of them members of the Cluster. The project has the support of Acció (Generalitat de Catalunya) and the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce and is part of the legacy initiatives promoted by the Fundació Barcelona Capital Nàutica for the America's Cup 2024. This action will enable the sector to be activated, to innovate in the electrification of boats and show the world of nautical the potential of innovation and talent of the members of the Cluster.

Finally, the assembly ratified the addition of four new members to the Board: David Pardos, member representing Eurecat, Frederic Valls, member representing Scientific Angler, Javier Casado, member representing Nova Bocana and finally David Pino, representing Port Vell, as vice-president in place of Joan Colldecarrera, whose great work was recognized since the beginning of the organization and in complicated times such as the pandemic.

This year the cluster turns 10 years old. The three presidents who have led the entity, Toni Tió, Pepe Garcia-Aubert and the current president Marcelo Penna, agree on the value of the Cluster: working together to meet the challenges of the sector, detect opportunities, strengthen the quality of projects sustainability of companies and promote internationally what this represents.
