Monaco hosts until September 25 the annual exhibition of the world's most exclusive superyachts. The agreement has been renewed in this coastal city so that Marina Port Vell Barcelona will continue to host the MYBA Charter Show until 2024.
From the Barcelona Nautical Cluster we celebrate that Marina Port Vell Barcelona has reached this goal. The MYBA Charter Show is one of the most important international events in the nautical sector. This renewal means that Barcelona will continue to be the epicenter of luxury boats and will consolidate itself as one of the main nautical destinations of reference. In this sense, this renovation will also imply a new opportunity for the city and the nautical sector, which will have to specialize even more in the provision of services for large lengths. This fact represents the reactivation of a sector where vocational training plays a fundamental role in offering jobs. Ignacio Erroz, Managing Director of Marina Port Vell has highlighted that "being part of the Barcelona Nautical Cluster helps to add synergies and build projects. Together we work to place Barcelona on the international nautical map. From Marina we are very happy with the agreement to host the MYBA in the city until 2024 “.
During its stay in Monaco, Marina Port Vell has received the thanks and congratulations of John Wybron, president of MYBA, who has celebrated the fact of being able to continue collaborating with Marina Port Vell Barcelona in the next editions. In addition, he assured that "2021 has been a very active year, despite the challenges posed by the pandemic. We are very optimistic for the future and we really want to start the 2022 summer season in Barcelona, hand in hand with Marina Port Vell. "
It should be remembered that the MYBA Charter Show is the international event with the greatest impact in the nautical sector and that Barcelona has hosted since 2017. In the last edition, in 2019, 60 large vessels were exhibited and more than 2,000 attended professionals in the nautical industry.
According to a study by the United Stats Superyacht Association, the expenses of a 55 meter long yacht total 2.9 million euros per year, of which two thirds correspond to the economic impact for the city where the boat is moored, without having take into account the salaries of the crew, although a part of which is used for consumption.
It is important to recognize the economic impact that these types of events have on the city. More than 300 nautical related companies generate a total of 836 million euros of direct, indirect and induced economic impact, and up to 8,300 jobs. The superyacht sector affects both marinas on the Barcelona coast as well as companies dedicated to the maintenance and repair of boats, apart from a wide range of SMEs in this area and other services aimed at captains and crews.
