The Chamber of Commerce of Barcelona, within the framework of the 4helix+ European project, has organized with the collaboration of the Barcelona Clúster Nàutic the webinar “We are a sea country. The future of the blue economy”.
The main speaker has been Margarita Díez, manager of the Port de Mataró, together with Víctor Soria, project manager of the European projects office of the Chamber of Commerce of Barcelona, and Toni Tió and Neus Jordi, president and project manager of the Barcelona Clúster Nàutic, respectively.
"The Mediterranean has always been an economic driving force, and in Barcelona we live facing the sea, this sea that presents great opportunities for economic and social development in a sustainable way", Neus Jordi explained.
Víctor Soria highlighted how the European project 4helix+ has helped to promote innovation in this industry, innovation that is one of the keys to the future of the blue growth. This project has put in value the blue economy sector and has distributed in eight countries a total of 48 vouchers for innovation, each worth 10,000 euros (three of them for members of the Barcelona Clúster Nàutic: Seastainable Ventures, Business Yachtclub Barcelona and Daevi). As Soria said, one of the conclusions of the project is that "investment in innovation has an exponential impact".
The manager of the Port de Mataró detailed the opportunities and challenges that arise in the blue growth sector. In her opinion, yachting industry has great potential if it manages to reach the general public. She also recommended promoting nautical experiences for tourism and exploring other ways to discover the sea. Likewise, she emphasized sustainability and innovation for the sustainable growth of resources.
The president of the Barcelona Clúster Nàutic agreed and highlighted the employment generated by the yachting industry. "They are valuable and permanent jobs," Toni Tió said.
